What do I need to enter?

An original song of your own, a video to accompany it, an email and a Youtube account! A keen passion to shamelessly self-promote helps! Get creative – you're up against Australia's top unsigned bands – creative 'spamming' will boost your already brilliant song & vid to the top!

I/We are currently signed to a label, or have previously been signed to a label. Can I still enter?

Usually yes. Check the terms of any license or other agreement you have signed. Unless the agreement places restrictions on all of your original music for a specified period of time, or your Catapult entry is a musical work specifically covered by the agreement, then you are free to enter a new song to Catapult. It is up to all entrants to ensure that their entry is free from any third party obligations however, so check with your record label if in any doubt.

I have an existing song video already on Youtube. Can I use this for my Catapult entry?

Sure! You can enter one of your existing YouTube song videos. Or you can enter a new clip that you've made just for Catapult. See our How to Enter video for exactly how it all works.

When do entries close?

All the dates are listed at the bottom of our Facebook Welcome page (click the little link over there on the left).

Registration asks for only 1 name, but there are 'x' members in the band.

Official entry is required to be by one 'spokesperson' on behalf of the entry. In the event of the entry winning a minor prize, all correspondence will be with the registered spokesperson. In the event of the entry winning the major prize, details of each band member will be required.

Do I need a Facebook Fanpage or personal account?

Strictly speaking no, but it's a great idea. To enter, an email and a Youtube account are enough. But a Facebook account to promote your entry is strongly recommended.

Why does Catapult registration ask for a Youtube account?

Your video entry is hosted on Youtube, and is uploaded by you, hence the need for your own account.

My video has other comp promo's & subtitles along it, is that ok?

It's OK by us, but you need to check whether the video contains anything that may breach third party rights. It is best not to display logos, trademarks or other intellectual property of another organisation unless you have the green light from them in writing.

 

Do you need a video of complete song that is entered or is a partial video acceptable for proof of performance?

Yes we do need a full video from you, unfortunately incomplete videos won't be accepted

 

I've entered and uploaded a video, when will it be up?

All entries must go through a manual content moderation. The aim is moderation within 24hrs of upload. A confirmation email will be sent once moderation is complete.

Where can I promote my entry?

Everywhere & anywhere! Exposure is exposure and the sky is the limit! Get your creative juices flowing and watch your votes skyrocket! We help by promoting via social media streams including Facebook, Twitter & Youtube, but that should only be the beginning for you! Hit the streets, the radio stations, the pubs, the local bowls club!

I've entered the comp, can I still vote?

If you have a Facebook account then of course! You can only vote once for each song anyway, but feel free to check out and give props to fellow musicians!

 

I'm from outside Australia – can I still enter my song?
Unfortunately the competition is only open to Australian artists.  Email us at michelleandkella@catapultsongcontest.com.au if you're interested in an international competition and we'll keep you posted.

I AM from Australia but just living overseas - can I still enter my song?

Unless you are back in Australia by the 17th of October 2011 (when voting begins), unfortunately you will not be eligible to enter the contest. But there is always next year if you're back by then!!

There's an original song that I love – can I enter it?
Absolutely!  If it's Australian and it's original – you can submit it on the artists behalf.  Not only that, but you could potentially be the winner of our Talent Scout competition.  Learn more about it at our Facebook page.

 

Why do we have to enter a song video?  Why can't I just enter a song?
Good question!  The main reason is that the web is a place where people like to see stuff and it's always good to put a face to a name.  We wanted to make this competition that had some visual elements to it. But remember, it's NOT a competition for music videos, so please don't feel like you need to spend a heap of time on this. 

How do I create a video for my song?

 

STEP ONE:  If you haven't already got a music video, don't worry!  You've got options!!  If you already have one and it's already up on YouTube, ignore Step One and read Step Two.

This only needs to be a slideshow of a minimum 4 photos of you or your band, we don't need anything fancy if you don't have it.

• Create a SUPER-quick music video of your original song using Stupeflix on YouTube - Costs $3, pay with PayPal and takes about 10 minutes 
• Create a SUPER-quick one using "Windows Movie Maker" if you have a PC or "iMovie" if you have a Mac  - FREE and takes about 30 minutes as you'll need to export the video and the load it to YouTube 

You'll need to create a YouTube account if you don't already have one (it's free!).  Then load the video you created to your YouTube account.  Note: YouTube is going through some maintenance at the moment so you may need to wait until this evening to do it

 

STEP TWO:  Click the "share" button on your YouTube video, then copy that link to be ready to paste it in STEP FOUR below (see here for a screenshot)

 

STEP THREE:  Go to our Facebook Welcome page, "like" us, then click "Enter Your Song or One You Love" from the Welcome page (or the "Enter/Nominate" link on the left hand side) and accept the application if it asks for permission

 

STEP FOUR:  Paste the YouTube link of your song video into the song entry/nomination form, plus fill out all other details 

 

....and you're done!!

 

 

 

How do I find the URL for my YouTube video?

1. Click on your video once you've uploaded it

2. Click on the “share” button which is just below the video

3. The link to the video will appear which you can copy and paste into the field on our Entry page

 

How do I upload my video to YouTube?
Go go here for instructions – scroll down the page until you see the title “Upload Video Slideshow to YouTube”.  Or, do a search on YouTube for “uploading video to youtube” for a video tutorial that suits you.

I'm a Dance/Electro producer and I remix songs – are they eligible?
If you are not using an original melody AND original lyrics, you are not eligible to enter the competition.  This means that dance remixes cannot be entered (unless it's a remix of your own original, unsigned song of course!!)

 
Can I contact artists who have submitted their songs?
You sure can!  Just search for the artist name or song.  Click on the search result and their song will appear, then click the “contact this artist” button at the bottom of the page.  We'll receive your message for the artist and pass it on.  It's that simple!

 

Last year I submitted a song – can I submit the same song this year?
We strongly encourage you to enter a new song this year.  If you were selected for the top 8 last year, the same song will not be eligible to enter this year.

 

What prizes to the winners get?

What's in it for me?

Remember that warm fuzzy feeling when you do something good? Well you'll get that when you support local Aussie artists by voting for them! If that's not enough, we have a range of fan prizes constantly being announced! Check the 'Sponsor' page for more details!

Do I need to be logged onto Facebook to vote?

Yep! It means no unnecessary registering for you. Now you can easily share with your mates the songs you've liked! It also helps stop any voting scams happening! Always a good thing in a good-natured comp!

Can I vote only once?

You can vote for as many songs as you wish, but only once for each individual song. The best way to show your extra support for a song is to share it with your friends and win their vote for the song!

I voted for a song, but have changed my mind, what can I do?

Given the nature of the competition, your vote can not be removed from a song. Just vote for other songs to help you forget your whoopsie!

I swear a song I just watched is someone else's work! How do I report it?

Contact us at michelleandkella@catapultsongcontest.com.au or privately message us on Facebook. Whilst we do our best at weeding this out, inevitably some songs may slip past us. Your help is definitely appreciated!
