Catapult - Rules & Terms of Entry

Entrants, please read right through this carefully to avoid tears and heart-ache. Every entry must follow these rules.

Here's the whole Catapult Song Contest in a nutshell:

  1. You need a song & video of your own composition, not someone else's (unless they also consent to and form part of the entry).

  2. You need a song video. Audio-only entries will not be accepted. Whilst still-imagery is fine, a rolling montage consisting of minimum 2-4 images (relevant to the artist & song), are required for entry approval.

  3. Each entrant must be an Australian permanent resident.

  4. The song video cannot breach any third party rights or obligations. Artists are responsible to seek and receive written permission from any such parties before entering. We encourage artists currently signed to independent record labels to enter Catapult, but please do the right thing and discuss this with your record label first!

  5. Great vocals are highly recommended, but instrumentals and sound-scapes are also OK. Axel F did rather well as a single.

  6. Once you have the video, go to our Entries & Nominations page on Facebook .

  7. After entry, you will receive an email either approving or rejecting your entry, and advising what to do next.

  8. All voting will occur via the Catapult Song Contest fanpage on Facebook. To be eligible to vote you will need to be logged in to Facebook and be a fan of the Catapult fanpage. Voting for multiple entries is allowed.

  9. The official dates for the competition are included on the How It Works page at www.facebook.com.au/catapultsongcontest (click the button for the How It Works page)

  10. Last entries accepted 7 days before first round voting finishes, but we recommended entering MUCH sooner if you can. The more votes, the better your chances of making the top 50 and the final 8. First votes are received for one full month, so the earlier you enter, the more votes you can receive.

  11. We will choose a Top 50 based on Catapult votes (i.e. people clicking I VOTE FOR THIS SONG on our Catapult song pages in the Songs & Voting application). Unless you get votes, you can't be short-listed for the final round. You need to be in the top 50 to have a chance. Tell as many people as you can about your song entry, and in particular, (i) post a few times on your Facebook status asking your Facebook friends to vote and (ii) vote for your own entry and then use the referral screen to leave a message for your friends.

  12. There are very useful links to our Catapult 2011 - How to Vote and Catapult 2011 - After Voting. We highly recommend that you send these links to your fans.

  13. The final 50 entries will be reviewed by the Catapult judging panel comprising industry experts and other guests invited to represent a cross section of age groups, genres and experience. The judging panel will select the provisional final 8.

  14. The provisional final 8 entrants will each be asked to sign a document confirming that they are the songwriters, they are Australian permanent residents and a couple of other standard admin things.

  15. The final 8 entries will be sent live for one final round of voting on the Facebook Songs & Voting section. The winners will be selected by our judging panel based on the following score: (i) 50% based on votes received during final 8 round (ii) 50% based on Catapult judging panel votes.

  16. A provisional winner will be selected. This winner will be invited to sign an agreement with Replicat to allow us to use the song and interview the artist(s) for our promotion of the following year's competition. It is important to note however, that the winning artists retain ownership of both the song and the album stock, and they are free to choose their own record label to distribute the title on their behalf. Neither Catapult, nor the promoters, seek to share in the revenue from the sale of the album, nor are they responsible for providing licencing, distribution and/or promotion of the albums.

  17. The winners will be announced within a few days of the signing
